Top Ten Tuesday: Books To Read This Spring

Top Ten TuesdayHello readers, spring is here! This week’s Top Ten Tuesday looks at books I want to read over the next few weeks.

There are so many titles I want to try, it’s hard to whittle it down to ten.

Other bloggers aren’t helping; they keep throwing out amazing reviews. My must-read pile is getting bigger by the day.

If you’d like to create your own Top Ten Tuesday list, give it a go. This feature was launched by The Broke and the Bookish and has been hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl since January 2018. To find out more simply visit the host website by clicking here

The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks, Rebecca Skloot

I’ve spent a big chunk of the last month on trains so – sadly – have stuck with ebooks, leaving bulky paper stories behind.

I’m going to get back to Henrietta Lacks as soon as possible. This is the horrific, true story of an African-American farmer whose cells were stolen without her consent and used to create a multi-million-dollar medical industry.

Conversations With Friends by Sally Rooney

This is another one I started before travelling got in the way. I’m planning a speedy re-read soon before posting a review. It follows two millennials who are swept up in the lives of an affluent older couple.

Red Leopard Black Wolf by Marlon James

This recent fantasy release has is popping up everywhere. It’s meant to be a brilliant mixture of African mythology and history with plenty of politics.

The Seven Husband of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid

Last year, Instagram was flooded with images of this book. Good news – the ebook version has recently gone on sale!

Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine by Gail Honeyman

Yes, I know, everyone in the book-loving world has read this apart from me! Other fiction fans keep telling me it’s brilliant. I have to search my local library for a copy.

The Friend by Dorothy Koomson

People keep recommending Dorothy Koomson’s novels to me (if you’re reading this, thank you, you know who you are!) so I’m hugely excited to have a copy of The Friend. The protagonist learns someone in her social circle has made a murder attempt.

Red Birds by Mohammed Hanif

This story also fell foul of my need to dash around the country. I’ve been gifted a beautiful hardback version which is hard to squeeze into a suitcase.

Red Birds is the story of an American pilot who crash-lands near to the refugee settlement he’s been told to bomb. Teenager Momo is trying to survive day-to-day life within the camp.

The Humans by Matt Haig

A book told from the perspective of an alien? Count me in! This is another addition to my e-book sale haul.

The Stone Circle by Elly Griffiths

Last time I checked, over a hundred people were on the library waiting list for the latest book in the Dr Ruth Galloway series. These easy-to-read mysteries follow a forensic archaeologist with a complicated love life. I’m desperate to learn who’s the father of a character’s baby…!

Becoming by Michell Obama

I only read autobiographies occasionally but this one has been on my must-read list for a while. Any minute now, I’m going to break and splash out on a copy…

Have you read any of these? Let me know below!

  1. From your list I’ve only read Becoming, but it was a fascinating read. I listened to the audio version, and it was wonderful listening to Michelle tell her story in her own words. I hope you enjoy it when you get to it!

  2. I really, really loved The Humans. So smart, so great. I still need to read Evelyn Hugo! I’ve read everything else by this author, and have loved them all. Enjoy your spring read!

    1. I’m part way through Evelyn Hugo and can tell you that I’m loving it!

Nice to hear that you enjoyed The Humans. A couple of people have told me that it wasn’t for them. I’ll be giving it a go shortly.
