Could Elizabeth Bennett be witty in 280 characters or less? Would Becky Sharp go into debt to become an Insta influencer?
I struggled not to go overboard with this week’s challenge. We were asked to pick ten – that’s right, just ten – literary characters to follow on social media.
If you’d like to create your own list, give it a go. This feature was launched by The Broke and the Bookish and has been hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl since January 2018. To find out more simply visit the host website by clicking here.
Arthur Dent
The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams
Even after the destruction of his planet, Arthur has his priorities right.
Dumbledore
The Harry Potter Series by JK Rowling
Dumbledore’s twitter account would never be boring
Queenie
Queenie by Candice Carty-Williams
Move over Bridget Jones. Queenie is a must-follow for everyone in the UK.
Miss Havisham
Great Expectations by Charles Dickens
Why torment Estella when there are thousands of wedding planners to troll online? (Let’s hope she also finds a social media support group at the same time.)
Winnie the Pooh
Winnie the Pooh by AA Milne
Possibly the world’s greatest philosopher. Winnie would bring sunshine into everyone’s day.
Becky Sharp
Vanity Fair by William Makepeace Thackeray
This enterprising social climber would be the ultimate Insta influencer.
The Librarian
Discworld Series by Terry Pratchett
Only followed by Discworld inhabitants able to speak orangutan.
Korede
My Sister, the Serial Killer by Oyinkan Braithwaite
Korede’s sister Ayoola is a serial killer but Korede is a serial enabler. Her cleaning skills could make her a social media star to rival Mrs Hinch.
Emma
Emma by Jane Austen
Annoying, entitled but always entertaining. Follow Emma but run from her matchmaking attempts (he’s not as single as she says…)
Evelyn Hugo
The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid
Evelyn never does anything half-heartedly. Get ready for social media’s biggest star.
Would you follow any of these characters? Let me know in the comments below!
Arthur Dent made my list, too. I love yours! I debated Becky Sharp and Evelyn Hugo too, but Mrs Havisham and Korede are stellar picks especially given why you chose them.

Thanks Jocelyn! I’d like to see Arthur Dent post about tea and sandwiches while intergalactic chaos goes on around him…

You can’t go wrong with Emma – she’d want to be an influencer but would never put enough time aside to follow through!
